King Malakiyah: Wearing Many Crowns in Reggae Music
King Malakiyah wears many crowns. He is a prolific songwriter, a conscious roots
reggae artiste, and a dynamic producer whose words and music continue to inspire.
One of his signature phrases, “Mi deh yah”, is quickly becoming an anthem
wherever he goes. Another, “Messiah”, stands as a powerful expression within his
catalogue of music that consistently speaks of righteousness and the Almighty.
Among his standout songs is “Serious Time”, which highlights diverse tribulations
such as violence, poverty, and corruption. Another track, “Spiritual Bomb,”
delivers electrifying lyrics like a lyrical time bomb, aimed at dismantling all forms
of negative and satanic forces.
The message is clear in his track “What Are You Fighting For”, where he sings:
“Tell me what you fighting for, because all is vanity.
The only hope in this life, is to seek first the Almighty…”
According to King Malakiyah, born Garfield Blake, his mission has always been
clear:
“I write these songs to uplift the nation, open the eyes of mankind to have wisdom,
to make the right choices in life. Too many people have lost their purpose and
mission in life. As entertainers we have to educate them, as music is life.”

Born in Enfield, St. Mary—a farming parish known for producing icons like
Capleton, Beres Hammond, and Ninja Man—Blake’s journey began in church,
where he discovered his gift for writing and singing gospel songs as a teenager. His
peers quickly recognized his talent for songwriting, a skill he sharpened through
performances and presentations.
His first major breakthrough came in 2012 when he auditioned for the Digicel
Rising Stars competition with his original song “Music to My Soul”, a lover’s rock
ballad that captivated the judges. He went on to make an impression for three
weeks on national television, reaching millions of viewers worldwide.
“The people love me immensely, and that opportunity will always be an asset to
my music career,” he reflects.
Since then, King Malakiyah has shared stages with reggae luminaries such as Lila
Iké, Luciano, and Mikey General. With his growing reputation, he sets his sights
on performing at major international festivals in France and Germany, as well as
expanding into Africa, which is rapidly becoming a global hotspot for reggae
shows.
With his unwavering faith, lyrical fire, and commitment to righteousness, King
Malakiyah continues his mission to uplift, educate, and inspire through the power
