Mikey General bio

Mikey General aka Miss Taylor Bwoy was born Michael Taylor in Harlesden NW London 10/9/1963. His parents returned to Jamaica with his siblings November 1965 thus Mikey spent his formative years ìn Kingston. Living first in Harbour View his family later moved to Valentine Garden, He attended Allman town infant school and then St. Richards primary school on Red hills rd where he learnt music being a member of the choir. He also attended Marvely Gospel hall and was a choir member as well .He also attended St Georges College in Kingston. His interest in music developed when his neighbour had a sound called Shamrock used let him sing on sound at the age of 11 Later he would sing on sounds in the Ackee Walk and 

Jackson Town area of St Andrew line 

Chalice, Zion Sounds and Maka tone. There he found his skills as a dj and singer. He did his first recording for a producer Ruddy Silence after hearing Mikey sing on his sound called Sound of Silence in 1980 at Channel One Studios 

The musicians were the Great Soul Syndicate band with legends Fully Full wood Tony Chin and Santa Davis .The song Roots mi Roots, was his first recording which would lead to countless singles and 18 albums to date.

In 1982 he went to London and worked first at a wine factory, still singing whenever got the chance. He recorded his first in the UK for Blacka Dread of Coxone out national Hustling and Life in the ghetto 1983 but his first release in the UK was Babymother produced by Levi Roots quickly followed by Do you want to starting 

something, a cover of the Michael 

Jackson hit on Sugar Minott's Black Roots label. His career would grow when he began singing on Saxon Sound which included Papa Levi Tipper Irie and Maxi Priest. His dubplates for Saxon caught the attention of producers Dub Vendor, a leading record shop in London. There Mikey recorded a number of songs including the hit Dancehall Vibes his first top ten song .Also his first album with Andrew Paul Soundboy burial .Mikey was voted Singer of the year 1985 by the prestigious Black Echoes magazine .He went on to voice a number of songs for producers Jah Life and Philip Fattis Burrell on the Vena label. He also recorded I said no for the great Jackie Mitto .Between 1985 to 1990 he travelled between 

Jamaica and London and in 1992 returned to live in Jamaica. Having linked up with 

Fattis Burrell he became a part of the famed Exterminator Krew which included 

Luciano. Jesse' Jendah Shadowman 

Ragnum Poyser and a young Sizzla Kalonji. Here he embraced the Rastafari faith. Along with Dean Fraser and the Firehouse Krew they toured traveling to Europe Us and the Caribbean from 1995 to 1999 .After he toured with Luciano and the Firehouse Krew and Jahmessenjah band 2000 till 2010 then he started his 

own support team .He has a total of 18 albums and at last count over 700 singles. Having been to Australia, Japan and a few African countries Mikey is a seasoned veteran in the reggae world. 

He continues to be consistent and relevant with his potent lyrics of love Self reliance. Justice and equality for all in tune with his Rastafari beliefs. Songs like Sinners 

Unseen blessings. Babylon cake and 

Father GOD Almighty still resonates with music lovers worldwide. After his last album Hold a heights released in July 2022 Mikey is currently working on a new album hopefully to be released early 2026.He currently has a few new singles like on the Qabalah First music cover Do for love and When people nuh rate you for Buggie G music. 

Kamala Wright agency now handles bookings for Mikey General and is available for shows and events etc. Rastafari continues to be a source of strength to his message and music
